A personal letter to you from William J. Corcoran,
President of the Newport Public Library Board of Trustees

Dear friends,

As a life long resident of Newport, I bring to my position as President of the Board of Trustees, a deep commitment to the Newport Public Library and a lifetime of experience in providing protection from the elements by erecting tents of all sizes.

Today I hope to raise another tent. One designed to protect our library in today's challenging financial environment and help assure that all of our services to the public will continue in the upcoming year.

During the past year the library and its staff has worked hard to learn how to best meet the needs of the community. Here are some of the changes that have been made recently:

• A self check-out machine designed to check out all library materials.
• A new browsers' area with new books, large print titles, audiobooks, playaways and DVDs all displayed prominently.
• A website that offers downloadable audiobooks and videos for free.

Colonel Elisha Powell, Commander of the 332nd Expeditional Medical Group comments on the use of medical tents. "Miracles do happen here. It's not about tents: it's what we do inside the tents."

The Newport Public Library, a "tent" which has its own miracle of "life-long learning for the entire community" needs your support.

Please donate what you can for no gift is too small, but no gift at all could disrupt many of our services.
