Common Practices

Our “neighborhood” subcollections group popular topics/formats together to facilitate browsing. All BIO, COMPUTERS, GRAPHIC, LANGUAGE, LITERACY, LOCAL AUTHOR, JOBS, TEST PREP, TRAVEL, FRANCAIS, and ESPANOL neighborhood items:

  • use the znaa location code
  • permanently display their neighborhood title at the start of the call number field (enter this info in capital letters)
  • are shelved with neighborhood-specific stickers placed immediately above their spine labels (the two exceptions are GRAPHIC and BIO, which have their square-shaped stickers below the spine label)
  • go directly to their shelving areas after processing (again, the GRAPHIC and BIO neighborhoods are the only exceptions; new biographies and graphic novels do receive the znan location code and go to “new” item shelving after initial processing)

Sample spine labels are below. See the other pages in this section for more information on individual neighborhood collection scopes, Sierra codes, etc.
