EDUCATION RESOURCES INFORMATION CENTER (ERIC) – An online library of education research and information maintained by the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences. Provides article, reports, and data for people interested in learning more about the theory and practice of education. (Library card required to log in.)
EXPLORA – EDUCATOR’S EDITION – EBSCO’s interface for teachers, offering access to lesson plans, curriculum standards, and professional development resources. Allows you to access multiple EBSCO databases at once, using a Google-like search box. Patrons can search across ERIC, Teacher Reference Center, Points of View Reference Center, and EBSCO’s ebook collection. (Library card required to log in.)
RocketBooks study companions– These DVDs provide stories/plays in a video format which also includes chapter summaries, in-depth analyses and pop quizzes after each chapter. The library has videos for many of Shakespeare’s plays and other popular classics. They can be checked out for use by teachers and students.
Smart Pass – educational study guides on CD “combine full-cast productions of classic literature texts with guided commentary and analysis, written by experienced, enthusiastic teachers…. The commentary explores the language and imagery, as well as the historical and social background to the text and its author. The tone is friendly and conversational, designed to be easily absorbed as well as to demonstrate critical thinking, to help students develop their study strategies, essay writing and planning skills….” {http://www.smartpass.org/student.html, August 24, 2009} The library has Smart Pass CD’s for many of Shakespeare’s most studied plays as well as other popular classics. In our catalog, search the title you want and limit to “book on CD”. They can be checked out for use by teachers and students.
TeenBookCloud from Tumblebooks is a curated database of e-books and other digital content for Middle Schools and High Schools, as well as Public Libraries.
The growing collection features over 1000 titles, including student-favorite Graphic Novels, enhanced e-books with full audio narration and highlighted text, classic literature, national geographic videos, and more!
In response to OCVID-19, Tumblebooks has made their collection free to libraries through August 31. We hope these resources prove helpful to you.
