FCF – The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

For teens and lovers of teen literature.

A touching story of a young girl torn between the neighborhood and the upper class school her parents send her to so she can escape gang life. One night, one the way home from a neighborhood party, her unarmed best friend is shot by a white cop. Now Starr must find the courage to speak for herself and her friend.

*Warning: characters in this story use strong language which has been included in this reading as it contributes to the authenticity of the story. The Hate U Give was a 2019 RITBA winner and the 2018 Reading Across RI selection. The movie version of this book is rated PG-13.

Newly received in YA, Concrete Rose, the story of Starr’s father, Big Mav, and his days as a King Lord. Check it out.
